December 5th is recognized by the United Nations as International Volunteer Day. To celebrate, we’re giving all of our current and past tutors a gift: a Facebook group!
Without our volunteer tutors, READ could not exist. If you’re a soon to be tutor who just joined us for Orientation, we celebrate you. If you’re a tutor that has been volunteering with us for several years, we celebrate you. If you’re a former tutor that has moved on to other great causes, we celebrate you too! Volunteering at READ is not like most volunteer opportunities. It requires a long-term commitment, dedication to lifelong learning, patience, and flexibility. Our volunteers bring these qualities in spades. Thank you for giving your time to READ, and for believing that everyone deserves a literate life.
On this auspicious day, READ has launched a new way for our tutors to communicate, exchange ideas, and share resources. Introducing The Tutor Space: a closed Facebook group for current and past READ tutors. Pose suggestions to staff, ask questions, share stories…the possibilities are endless. To join, visit the group, and click on Request to Join. An Administrator will approve your request, and voila! You will receive notifications from Facebook when a group member makes a new post.
P.S. Don’t forget to join us for Jingle & Mingle, a holiday get-together at the READ office next Wednesday, December 13th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Be sure to RSVP if you can attend.
P.P.S. Looking for information about volunteering with READ? You can find that on our Volunteers page.
