Events and Programs in the Community

Summer is here! Looking for something to do? Here are some programs available in the area to enjoy until READ’s regular classes begin again in September:

  • Are you an aspiring artist? The Visual Arts Center of Richmond has classes for adults and provides tuition assistance.
  • Richmond Public Library has a Summer Reading Challenge: Adults who read five books by August 12 and turn in their log will earn a bag, a book sale coupon, and will be entered to win theater tickets.
  • Project Yoga Richmond, a nonprofit, has a “pay what you can studio”, so it’s a great option for those wanting to try yoga.
  • The new Maggie Walker monument has been unveiled. You can see it at the corner of Broad and Adams Streets in the city’s historic Jackson Ward neighborhood. It is within walking distance of the Maggie Walker Home and National Historic Site.

Know of another great program or event that’s happening? Let us know so we can add it to the list.
